Steps for Updating Registrant Identity and Administrative Contact

A registrant as defined in the Regulation: The entity that registers a domain, even if it's an individual. This process allow the registrant of a domain name to request changes or modifications to their name resulting from a change in the entity name, mergers between different organizations, or other cases that do not need the involvement of third parties that were not involved in the registration process. This process is not for transferring domains to another entity. For transferring a domain to a different entity, use (transfer domain name process).

This process can also be used for nominating a new administrative contact for the domain, who will gain the all privileges to the domain. This should be done when it is no longer possible to reach the administrative contact (e.g. resignation, immigration, incorrect email, etc.). Due to the sensitivity of this process additional documents may be requested.

The following is a brief explanation of how to update a registrant identity and administrative contact:

Accessing the SaudiNIC’s E-portal of SaudiNIC Services

All SaudiNIC services are provided electronically through SaudiNIC’s e-portal site (www.nic.sa or سجل.السعودية). It requires logging into the e-portal using your username and password. If you do not have an account then you can create a new account by submitting a request using the service: creating an account.

1- Filling up the form for updating registrant identity and administrative contact

The first step in updating registrant identity and administrative contact is to fill in the service form. The following information is requested:

  • The domain information and reason for updating.
  • The information of the request submitter.
  • The information of the administrative contact.
  • The account holder must make sure that the form is filled correctly and all errors are corrected prior to submission.

2- Uploading the documents

The account holder is requested to upload documents used to support the request and to provide a proof for the accuracy of the submitted information. Usually the request documents are:

  1. The registration letter, which is a pre-filled letter obtained from the account page and used to request the registration. It should be printed on an official paper, signed and then uploaded to the account again.
  2. A document used to provide a proof for the relationship between the registrant and the domain requested (for example Commercial registry, trade mark certificates … etc.).

Other supporting documents you believe that they can help your application.

Submitting those documents is done by uploading them directly by the account holder using a special form and they must be uploaded in the accepted electronic format (i.e., png, jpg, gif, Tiff, or PDF) .

The request letter must be authenticated by the chamber of commerce ( in the case of local companies ) or a Saudi embassy ( in the case of international companies ).

3- Review and confirm the request

The entire request information are displayed to the user in order to review and confirm their accuracy and correctness, he/she can delete the request at this stage if needed.

4- The nominated Administrative Contact approval

The nominated Administrative Contact must approve the request, a link to the request information form will be sent to his/her email address, he/she will be asked to approve the request, or if needed he/she can reject the request entirely. Account holder must coordinate with the nominated Administrative Contact regarding this step and ensure that he/she have all the needed information to be able to take his/her decision.

The account holder can re-send the approval request to the nominated Administrative Contact in case he/she didn't receive it .

5- Processing the request by SaudiNIC

After successfully completing all the previous steps the request is officially considered to be received by SaudiNIC. After that the processing procedure will start. The results of processing the request will be one of the following :

  1. Accepted. Then, the domain information will be modified accordingly and concerned parties will be notified.
  2. Rejected. Concerned parties will be notified of the reasons. The account holder can apply again after resolving the problems.
