Steps to Register a Domain Exempted from The Reserved List

SaudiNIC maintains and manages the list of reserved domains. Reserved domains are domain names that contain words with some specific meanings that should not be registered in the normal procedure, they can only be registered through a special procedure.

You can submit a request to exempt a domain from the reserved list, and if that request is approved, you can proceed with the registration steps explained here. These steps are only for registering domains exempted from the reserved list. If the exemption request is approved, a secret key is sent to the request submitter to allow them to start the steps below.

The following is a brief explanation for how to register a domain that has been exempted from the reserved list:

Accessing the SaudiNIC’s E-portal of SaudiNIC Services

All SaudiNIC services are provided electronically through SaudiNIC’s e-portal site (www.nic.sa or سجل.السعودية). It requires logging into the e-portal using your username and password. If you do not have an account then you can create a new account by submitting a request using the service: creating an account.

1- Filling up the registration form

The first step in registering a domain name that was exempted from the reserved list is to fill up the service form and providing the following information:

  1. The domain name to be registered.
  2. Registrant information.
  3. The information of the technical and administrative contacts.
  4. The name servers hosting the domain.

The account holder must make sure that the form is filled correctly and all errors are corrected prior to submission.

2- Uploading the documents

Registering a domain name requires the account holder to upload some documents. They are used to support the request, to provide a proof for a relationship between the registrant the requested domain, and to proof the accuracy of the submitted information. Usually the required documents are:

  1. The registration letter, which is a pre-filled letter obtained from the account page and used to request the registration. It should be printed on an official paper, signed, and then uploaded to the account again.
  2. A document used to provide a proof for the relationship between the registrant and the domain requested (for example Commercial registry, trade mark certificates … etc.).
  3. Other supporting documents you believe that they can help your application.

Submitting those documents is done by uploading them directly by the account holder using a special form and they must be uploaded in the accepted electronic format (i.e., png, jpg, gif, Tiff, or PDF) .

3- Review the request

All the information in the request are displayed to the account holder in order to review them and confirm their accuracy and correctness, he/she can modify or even delete the request at this stage if needed.

4- Administrative Contact approval

The Administrative Contact must approve or reject the request. The Account Holder must coordinate with the Administrative Contact regarding this step and ensure that the Administrative Contact has all the needed information to be able to take his/her decision.

5- Processing the request by SaudiNIC

After successfully completing all the previous steps the request is officially considered to be received by SaudiNIC. After that the processing procedure will start. The results of processing the request will be one of the following:

  1. Accepted, if all the submitted information is correct and the registrant is eligible and has shown its relationship with the requested domain. Then, the domain will be exempted from the reserved list and registered. Concerned parties will be notified.
  2. Rejected. Concerned parties will be notified of the reasons. The account holder can resubmit after resolving the problem.
